In 2025, the capability map function was enhanced based on customer feedback. The key features includes

1) Grid management

2) Insert column/row or shift right/down

3) Capability state colour scheme

4) New grouping of capabilities: Grid Map and Value Streams

1) Grid Management

When working with the Jibility capability map, Jibility will automatically inserts a new column or row into the grid depending on where you drop a new capability. Previously, the automatic grid management by Jibility was the only option.

Now, the Jibility capability map grid has been significantly enhanced by enabling you to add and remove column and rows yourself as well.

In the following grid example, along the top and left side there are now "+" icons that you can click to add a new column or row, respectively.

You can also select a column or a row using the "=" icon, as shown below.

Note that selecting and delete a column or row will delete all the capabilities in the column or row, respectively.

2) Insert column/row or shift right/down

When dropping a capability into a grid between two existing capabilities, the default is to insert a new row or column.

In the following example, dropping a new Capability 6 between Capability 4 and 1 will insert a new row. Likewise, dropping a new Capability 7 between Capability 2 and 1 will insert a new column.

The result is shown below.

If you wanted to insert Capability 6 and 7 and shift the capabilities down a row or right by a column then hold the SHIFT KEY when you drag and drop the new capability onto your grid.

In the following, Capability 6 was inserted between Capability 4 and 1 by holding the SHIFT KEY, which resulted in Capability 1 and Capability 5 bring shifted down a row instead.

3) Capability state colour scheme

The capability state colour scheme has improved to

1) Reduce the use of colour which may be difficult to work with over long periods of time; and

2) Improve identification of the capability state for those with visual impairment such as colour blindness.

Note that Professional and Enterprise plan users can continue to publish the capability map to PowerPoint in the original style by selecting the "Original Style" checkbox in the Capability Map published document. Unfortunately, Free and Standard plan users do not have access to the publish to PowerPoint feature.

4) New grouping of capabilities: Grid Map and Value Streams

Jibility has introduced the ability to group one or more rows of capabilities and provide a group name. A group may be a Grid or a Value Stream.

A common use case for creating grid groups is to layer the rows of capabilities into groups called Strategic, Core, and Enabling. Below is an example of this (click on the image to see it in detail).

To add a new group, select the "+" icon at the top or bottom of an existing group, as shown below.

You can change the properties, including the group name, by clicking on the group to open its properties panel.

Grid Map Layout

The layout and behaviour for a grid and a value stream are different. A grid has fixed row height, which is determined by the height of the tallest capability in the row. This can create a lot of white space when you have one tall capability and the rest of the capabilities in the row are shorter. You can see this in the example below.

Value Stream Stacked Layout

A value stream layout, due to the need to line capabilities under each value stage, will stack the capabilities tightly within the stage column. This will reduce the white space within a column.
